In the ongoing farce that is my experience with on-line dating, I got this message today:
you're adorable actually for being 39...thought you were underage at first! looking very innocent/shy though. i think im going to be too outgoing, sarcastic, and just plain kinky for such a fragile girl like you to handle, dont you think?? ;-)
Um, hello. Does this wreak of condescension to you? It gives me visions of Humbert Humbert and for some reason I imagine this guy asking me to dress in a pinafore and frilly panties with butterflies on them.
Ewww.
Ahhh delete button, how I love thee.

On-line dating doesn't do much for me so I don't put a lot of energy into it. I have one dating profile out there which I wrote less than a year ago and have not updated. At the time I wrote it, we were in the throws of gardening, so I reference our green efforts and trials with the squirrels (whom I clearly love, but still...).
Today, I got this message from a potential suitor:
reading your bio... and thought I might suggest eating the "evil" squirrels...? I used to try to eat one a year...just to remind them (the evil squirrel species) which one of us sat higher on the food chain.
Now do you think he's trying to woo the foodie in me, or the vegetarian? ;>)

The world of on-line dating is very strange to me (for more reasons then I will bother typing up here) and I feel a bit like Alice down the rabbit hole.
I also can't help but notice that when I search sites via my interests and values, all I turn up are 20-somethings (most of whom live on the west coast...why am I in the midwest again?). That's unfortunate (for my love life, though not for the planet...so there's a plus).
Apparently I am most attractive to individuals who are over 50, or in their early 20's. What's with the gap I wonder? And who are all these 24 year olds who are out there looking for folks just shy of 40? When I was 24, I don't think I'd have looked twice at someone who was 38.
Curioser and curioser.
